A Mind Forever Voyaging (Infocom 1985)

Τελικά δεν κατάφερα ποτέ να νικήσω το  Wizardry. Η αλήθεια ειναι πως με κούρασε λίγο η μονοτονία της μάχης, και μετά απο λίγο καιρό το ξέχασα τελείως. Σταμάτησα να ενημερώνω και το blog Και έπεσα μετα μούτρα στο Diablo 3 (ενώ έχουν περάσει πολλά χρόνια από την αρχική του κυκλοφορία)

Πρόσφατα με έπιασε μια ρετρο-νοσταλγία και ξανακατεβάζω το exoDOS κολεξιον (σχεδόν όλα τα αξιολογοα DOS games – 400giga σύλλογή). Πάνω στην προσπάθεια μου να βρω ελεύθερο χρόνο, έσβησα τα παλιά DOS games και μαζί με αυτά, άθελα μου, και το save game του Wizardry. Καλύτερα. Για να έχω μια δικαιολογία που δεν το τελείωσα ποτέ. Μέχρι να κατέβει η συλλογή (17 μέρες λέει το torrent client) βρήκα σε ένα σκληρό δίσκο όλα τα παλιά text-adventures της Infocom. Ένα απο αυτά, που πάντα ήθελα να παίξω, ήταν το Α Mind Forever Voyaging.

Πολύ πρωτότυπο σενάρια για την εποχή του, ΑΙ, πολιτικά μηνύματα, πιο πολύ interactive fiction, παρά game, δεν παιζεις για να κερδίσεις αλλα για να ‘διαβάσεις την ιστορία. Χρειάζεται να κρατάω σημειώσεις, και είπα, αντί να τις γράφω στο google-docs, ας τις γράψω έδω, στο blog.

Ενα ενδιαφέρον passage που διάβασα στο A Mind Forever Voyaging (1985):

(Vancouver) (2/6/31) The prestigious Manning Institute has released a study,
entitled “The Tax Spiral: A Vicious Cycle,” which details how nonreporting and
underreporting of income is undermining the current tax structure. The study
concludes that, unless changes are made, the federal revenue system could
collapse by the end of the decade.

The Tax Spiral is the phenomenon where high rates cause more people to cheat
on their taxes, necessitating even higher rates, causing even more people to cheat,
and so forth. Economists believe that the current tax spiral began in the late
twentieth century.

Και λίγο πιο κάτω, ο λόγος του Γερουσιαστή Richard Ryder (που υποτίθεται οτι ειναι ο Roland Reagan του μέλλοντος):

“A lot of bleeding hearts these days are talking about how we ought to be sending
a lot of money and stuff to countries that aren’t as lucky as us. These misguided
souls seem to think we’re some kind of bottomless well of wealth, and they can
just keep shipping that well water around the world, telling their thirsty little
friends, ‘No need for you to knuckle down and solve your problems – we’ll keep
bailing you out!’ And who are some of these poor little countries we’re talking
about? Greece! Guatemala! North Korea! Albania! The same countries that are
always against the USNA in every issue, every forum, every two-bit propaganda
show. I think I speak for a majority of my fellow citizens when I say, ‘Let’s start
looking after our own interests first!’”

Μου φαίνεται πολύ αστείο ότι αυτό το κείμενο είχε γραφτεί το 1985 και ειναι επίκαιρο το 2019… USNA = United States of North America. Όλα αυτά γίνονται το 2031, ενώ όλος ο κόσμος βαδίζει προς την καταστροφή.
